October/November 2006

Changing colors, pumpkin patches, crisp morning air, and apple cider come to mind as we remember October. We are very excited about the change of weather, especially when we have taken a few nature walks. We had a very busy and interesting October. Every day Zachary reminds to put on the Barney songs, especially “The Ants Go Marching” so we can play follow the leader around the room. Before nap time the seedlings sing, “No more Jumping on the Bed” but yet they tend to jump on their cots?? They have become very comfortable with me as their new teacher and that brings me much joy. Circle time is one of my favorite activities. The seedlings bond the most during circle time. We have new cushions in the class that have each child’s’ photo and name on it. It helps them recognize different colors, the circle shape, their names. Best of all it helps them with what I like to call “TEAMWORK” when they help give them out to friends. They also love to help clean the table after snack time. They come asking for towels to wipe the table. While reading books during class and during "Read Together, Talk Together" we use lots of open ended questions to help them think about the story and how it may relate to them in real life. Art has been another exciting activity. We have been working on the color orange and have been looking for all the orange on our clothes and around the room. We even mixed yellow and red to make orange in our painting and playdoh. Our favorite activity was painting outside on paper taped to the wall. If anyone can spare some plastic grocery bags for our dirty clothes and dirty diapers we can always find a use for them. Please drop them off in the room. Lastly, I would like to invite you to join us during our great circle time. We are usually having circle at 10:30 daily. Drop by whenever you can and learn with us.

August/September 2006

Hello, Seedling parents. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Debie Trinidad. I have 3 children of my own. My daughter is 13 years old and my two sons, who will be attending Little Acorns, are 4 years old and 3 months old.

For those parents that do not know me, I have my CDA (Child Development Associates) and 7 years of child care experience at Little Acorns. I am a returning teacher. I was the lead teacher of the toddler room for many years. As I visited the Seedling classroom in August I was impressed with their creativity and enthusiasm. I am very excited and look forward to working with your children. Some of your children I have known as babies and some are new faces.

Parents, I would like to give you my email address if there are times you have concerns and questions, or just great ideas to add to our curriculum. Trinidadsmile@verizon.net. I do check my email on a daily basis please do not hesitate to write to me. Again, I look forward to getting to know all of you and your children better throughout the months to come.

June/July 2006

Seedlings love their circle time. We read stories, sing songs with many hand motions and finger plays. We practice our numbers and letters constantly throughout the day. We have been working with the body parts during circle time and with picture cards too.

The children love to do their daily projects. We have been doing more open-ended projects letting them squeeze the glue all by themselves. They love it because of the process that they go through with the materials provided. We have also been working with scissors. We are practicing by cutting magazines.

Potty time has been going very well. More than fifty percent of the group are in underwear now and we are very proud of their progress.

Our routines are becoming very well established. They have mastered standing in a line for washing hands and sitting down for snack and lunch. During lunch it is a very social time where we discuss different food groups and similarities and differences in our likes and dislikes. All this language development is making them little social butterflies. It has been wonderful to watch and join in.

As a whole the group has become very independent. They can do their own work with little help. The daily routine is so natural for them all. Haoua and I are having a great time with them.

We will continue with our summer plans as usual with the exception of water day and the upcoming field trip to Butler’s orchard.
