October/November 2006

Mighty Oaks have adjusted nicely to having two new teachers for their room. We have started a weekly cooking day where they not only learn new recipes, but also proper cooking sanitation and how to calculate proportions. All those who participate will be getting their own personalized cook books at the end of the school year.

We have been making big efforts to emphasize manners during snack time. While it has only been a month, pleases and thank yous abound. Your children have been working in groups to create new sports and board games which they will teach and play with their peers in a few weeks. We plan to continue with the small arts and crafts projects and will involve the kids in deciding which projects to do next.

Kristine and I have really enjoyed getting to know your children and are amazed by the diversity to which their personalities are developing.

August/September 2006

Welcome back to all our existing families and all our new families. We hope everyone had a great summer. Both Kristine and Jessica are very excited about working with your children and getting to know them better. We have a lot of great projects planned for both outdoor and inside the classroom, so we hope your ready. We are now up and running with a great group of school kids and look forward to a super school year. Remember to let us know of any days your child will not be attending our after school program. By now we should have received everyone’s attendance for the school closings and early dismissals. Remember, it is not a guarantee that we will have space for your child if you are not signed up for that day. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to a wonderful year.

June/July 2006

The Mighty Oaks had a great end of the year! Our car wash was a super success. We raised almost $200 for our end of the year party. Thank you to everyone who came by to get their cars washed or just gave donations. Our end of the year party was a splash. We had water day outside, where we played games for prizes, listened to Caribbean music, had pizza and many yummy treats, made tie die shirts and snow cones! Our last two days before summer were spent going to the zoo and swimming. The zoo trip was a great time with the metro ride as the highlight of the trip. Swimming is always a great time for everyone to kick off the summer pool season.

We want to say congrats and have a great middle school year to our Wayside graduates Matthew Balfour and Betash Banihashemi and our Beverly Farms graduate Sam Gilman. We will miss your presence here in the fall. We also wish all the Mighty Oaks and their families a happy summer and we will see you in late August for another great school year.
